Travel Writing - Make Your Query Letter Special

103 10
Travel writing is a competitive business.
But you can get the upper edge on your competition.
One of the ways you can do this is to write a query letter to the editor of the publication that leaves them spellbound and awestruck.
You have to try and impress the editors if you want to get noticed.
Your article should contain killer content, of course, but how will you get the editor or sub editor to read it in the first place? That is where your query letter comes in.
You should include a little bit about who you are and why you are a travel writer.
But, soon enough, you should explain what exactly you have to offer in your article.
This should include which part of "travel" you are writing about and also why it is that your article should stand out from the rest.
What makes your writing so special? Have you been somewhere unique? Have you done something different or unusual? Did you meet someone interesting, eat something different or do something that is out of the ordinary? Editors are not looking for the same old stuff.
They can get that from anywhere.
They are looking for something different, something with impact and promise.
You could include other unique features such as how you saved money, traveled in an unusual way or underwent an experience that others may not have thought of.
Make your query letter something that makes the editor want to read more - namely, your article.
