How to Cite Text You Summarized
- 1). Search the first few pages of your source for the publishing info. If an electronic source, this information should be displayed on the first page or "abstract" of the document.
- 2). Attribute your source by author name in the document you are writing either immediately before or after the summarized text.
- 3). Put in brackets the author's name, a comma and the date of your source's publication. You now have an in-text citation.
- 1). Locate the author's name, the year of source publication, title of source, place of publication and publisher.
- 2). Create a separate page for a bibliography at the end of your document.
- 3). List the author's last name first, followed by first initial.
- 4). List the year of publication in brackets after the author.
- 5). List the title of the source in italics followed by the place of publication and the publisher. If this information takes more than one line of text, indent the subsequent lines. Your summarized text is now fully referenced.
