How to Be a Top Motocross Rider
- 1). Join a racing organization. For example, if you wish to race in the U.S., you must join the AMA; if you wish to race in Europe, you must become a member of FIM.
- 2). Learn to race the right way. Attend training at one of the many motocross training schools around the country to learn the proper way to race and all aspects of dirt racing, trial riding and dirt jumping.
- 3). Practice your skills at your local track or on trails in your area. Learn how to jump properly, how to power slide through corners and good landing techniques. Practice as often as you can, at least three times per week in order to hone your skills to compete at the top level.
- 4). Compete in local or regional competitions. Enter as many races as you can and try to improve your finish every time. Learn from your mistakes and use what you've learned in practice sessions to increase your chances of winning.
- 5). Enter statewide or national events with the intent of doing well in order to pick up a sponsorship. Showcase your skills during these races to attract the attention of motocross sponsors, such as bike or helmet manufacturers -- they are always looking for new talent and these types of races are good showcases for up-and-coming riders.
- 6). Put it all together once you have made it to the top levels of motocross racing. Use all of the skills at your disposal. Practice as often as possible to keep your skills sharp.
