New Resales Hit the Estepona Property Market
With its bullring, markets and fishing fleet still in daily operation, Estepona on the western Costa del Sol is every inch a typical Spanish town and not what you would expect from a property hotspot.
There are few big and glamorous hotels, the chain stores haven't quite moved in yet and the beaches are still unspoilt by large scale tourism.
You can still see the fishermen landing their catches at dawn and watch the bullfighters in action at the Plaza de Toros.
What Estepona does have in abundance is charm.
From its traditional old town to the long sandy beaches and fishing port, Estepona is understated, peaceful and the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Spanish lifestyle.
There are some superb golf courses and sports clubs nearby, as well as popular tourist attractions including the Selwo wildlife park.
Estepona has its own working port and is also convenient for Duquesa port, Puerto Banus and the sailing marina at Sotogrande.
The town is well located and is served by two international airports at Gibraltar and Malaga.
The area began gaining popularity around 2005 when the famous coastal resorts of Puerto Banus and Marbella became a little too busy and a little too popular.
Estepona offered a quieter and better value experience, but with the same stunning beaches and wonderful climate.
As the market here was slower to develop, prices were cheaper and offered more mïEUR? for your money.
Slowly, property hunters discovered the hidden charms of the area and decided to put down roots there away from the noise.
And so it remains today, Estepona attracts a well-healed, sophisticated and affluent visitor who is looking for the more peaceful side of life.
The area is very popular with German and Scandinavian visitors as well as with native Spaniards.
The mix in age, incomes and lifestyles of the resident population means there is a wide variety of property available to buy and rent.
Spain's poor economic situation means new construction has largely stopped in the Estepona area.
This means resale properties are in high demand from those looking for a holiday home or to relocate.
New resale apartments, townhouses and villas are coming onto the market every day.
