Some conditions although medication and management options do exist, can also take ones life or make it very unbearable.
Here are the most common diseases viewed as extremely serious internationally in no particular order.
Diabetes.
This is a combination of medical conditions characterized by high glucose levels in blood.
This can be because either the body is not responding to the insulin hormone produced or the insulin produced is not enough to control the blood sugar levels and sometimes both.
There are two types of diabetes.
It can be type 1 (insulin dependent) or type 2 (non insulin dependent).
The diseases can lead to strokes, kidney failure and nerve damage among other conditions.
Heart diseases.
The major heart disease is coronary heart disease caused by the narrowing of the major blood vessels.
Other heart diseases that affect both men and women include congestive heart failure and congenital heart diseases.
Some of the symptoms of heart diseases include pain or tightness in the chest, arms, back, jaw, neck and shoulders.
Coronary heart disease can cause heart attack.
It is important to note that symptoms of heart attack may differ in men and women.
AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome).
This is a condition caused by the Human Immunodeficiency virus.
The virus weakens ones immune system making it difficult to fight even the simplest infections such as the flu.
This disease is transmitted through contact with an infected person's blood or during unprotected sex.
The condition has no cure but using medication to treat the infections, one can live for years with the disease.
Cancer.
This occurs as a result of uncontrollable growth and division of cells.
These cells form malignant tumors which spread to other organs through the lymphatic or the blood system.
Some of the causes of cancer include radiation, exposure to some chemicals, heredity and cigarette smoking while the symptoms can include swelling of the lymph nodes, weight loss and fatigue.
Common cancers include leukemia, breast cancer, prostrate cancer, lung cancer and liver cancer.
Tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis is the leading killer of people with HIV/AIDS.
Caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, tuberculosis is mostly airborne.
When an infected person coughs or sneezes into the air, one inhales these bacteria particles which go direct to the lungs.
The bacterium grows and uses the blood system as its means of transport to other body organs.
Tuberculosis is treatable with the right kind of medication.
