Information on Travel to San Andres, Colombia
- San Andres is one of the three major islands in the San Andres Archipelago along with Old Providence and Santa Catalina. It is located 112 miles east of Nicaragua and 249 miles south of Jamaica. The capital of the Colombian department that comprises the Archipelago is San Andres City.
- There are flights serving San Andres from Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico and many Colombian cities, but no direct flights from the US. Cruise ships do not typically have a port call at the island.
- The Archipelago is surrounded by a major coral reef system including a 20 mile long barrier reef off Old Providence Island. All the islands offer unspoiled, white sand beaches and turquoise waters.
- The plentiful coral reefs and many species of tropical fish make the entire Archipelago a diver's paradise.
- Although relatively undiscovered, San Andres City does have a vibrant nightlife centered on Avenida De La Playa where restaurants and bars featuring reggae music can be found.
