Who Is the No 1 Golfer?

In November 2010 Lee Westwood became the No.
1 golfer in the world.
What a brilliant achievement! How good must it feel to be the best in the world? After an impressive amateur career playing for England at several levels in the Boys, Youths and Senior teams from 1988 -1993, and winning the British Youths Championship in 1993, Lee turned professional.
After six years on the European Tour, in 2000 he was top of the Order of merit - the No.
1 golfer on the European Tour.
Another great achievement in such a short time.
Often after an amateur career many golfers find it difficult to settle into the professional tour, but year after year Lee playing better golf.
Many expected Lee to be at the top of the European Order of Merit for many years.
But in life or business sometimes things don't go as we planned, and this is exactly what happened to Lee.
From being top of the order of merit in 2000 he finished 52ndin 2001 then 75thin 2002.
What had happened to Lee? What was he doing so differently? Being a professional golfer is a hard life, living out of a suitcase week after week in different hotels, travelling throughout the world planning in tournament after tournament.
During 2001 and 2002 Lee knew that he wasn't going to be the No.
1 golfer in Europe or the World without changing a few things.
He went back to basics with his golf swing, made many changes, and worked for many hours trying to perfect these changes.
Many golfers wouldn't have been prepared to make so many changes to their swing, to their mental attitude, or to their fitness, but Lee Westwood wanted to be the best.
His hard work paid off, and he was 3rdin the Order of Merit in 2008.
In 2009 he won the race to Dubai (formerly the Order of Merit) then in November 2010 he became the No 1 golfer not just in Europe but in the world.
There are many similarities between success in golf, or any other sport, and success in business.
Everyone in business wants to be successful.
We want to be the best in our field.
To be successful in business we have to work hard, have a good business model, be able to adapt and learn new ways to improve, just like Lee Westwood in 2001 and 2002 when his swing let him down.
Lee had a group helping him to rebuild his golfing career, just as we have people to help us.
Lee would have had a professional to help him with his swing and he would have had a fitness instructor and a physiologist.
In business it's not so different.
The modern way is to have a mentor.
A mentor has been in the business longer than you, so is someone you can turn to if you have a problem because they will have encountered it before.
A mentor will help you to start and grow your business, bringing new ideas to help you move forward.
In this day and age we can have a mentor who lives miles away, and we can communicate by phone, mobile, email or by Skype.
What a great way to start a business, with someone to turn to for help along the way.
Lee has his team helping him along his journey just as we have our team helping us along our journey.
Having been in business for many years the one thing I like about today's business opportunities is the help you get from a mentor.
Recently I started a business in internet marketing - not a field I was familiar with - but realised that this is the way forward in business.
Having taken the first step I was amazed how much help and guidance I was given from my mentor.
I only wish this help had been available years ago.
Funny really when I have played golf for over forty years, having help with my game throughout that time, but in business having very little help.
