Alexa Prisco of Jerseylicious enjoys living the glamorous life
The Style Network describes the new series as, "the new makeover format show takes viewers inside the glittery, high-energy world of makeup artist extraordinaire and "Glam Fairy" herself, Alexa Prisco. After leaving the Gatsby Salon, Alexa establishes a new business headquarters – ‘The Glam Factory' – to serve as home base where she can showcase her makeover magic and build up clientele. Each fashion and beauty-centered episode will follow Alexa, accompanied by her team of "fairies," as she takes on new clients and uses her signature New Jersey style to transform women with hot new looks for all kinds of special occasions. The series will premiere this October on Style."
Alexa, who shot to fame along with her fellow cast mates Gayle, Olivia, Tracy, Gigi and Anthony from the Gatsby Salon on Jerseylicious, is now spreading her Glam Fairy wings with her own enterprise The Glam Factory. Located in Hoboken, she specializes in helping brides look their most glamorous on their big day, but also conducts makeup classes to teach others how they too can bring out their own inner glamazon.
The Style Network gives us a sneak peek into the new show by saying, "Alexa Prisco is one of the top on-location airbrush makeup artists in New York and New Jersey, and her "fairies," including her best friend and client liaison John, and "Jerseylicious" hairstylist Briella, have business booming despite having just opened their new headquarters, ‘The Glam Factory.' Providing hair, makeup and even photo services to women looking to be glamorous is not an easy task and one Alexa can't take on by herself so she decides to hire a young new assistant, also named Alexa, who is eager to follow in her glittery footsteps. Dubbed A2, the new assistant looks to be a promising addition to the ‘Glam Fairy' team and shares Alexa's vision in taking business to the next level, but will need to earn her position as a reputable fairy.
In the new series, Alexa and her team's transformations will include a Weight Watchers group who have reached their goal weight and want to celebrate with "after" photos; a group of military wives looking to spice themselves up with retro "pin-up" shots, and a woman who wants to celebrate being 40 and single with a makeover and grand entrance, at her "Fab at 40" birthday party. Each emotional episode culminates in a big reveal showcasing Alexa and her team's astounding makeovers.
In addition to revealing Alexa's life-changing makeovers, the series also explores her personal life, including Alexa's attempt to get her body back in shape when the team signs up for a "glammy boot camp." Alexa also begins to think about her future family life and explores a variety of options, including freezing her eggs. And in an effort to clear Glam Factory's spiritual energy, Alexa directs her team to hire a real-life Ghostbusters company."
Alexa gave us some insight into her new company, the best looks and where she hopes this new chapter in her life takes her.
How amazing is it to be on Jerseylicious, which is the number one show on the Style Network. How did the show Jerseylicious come into being and did you ever imagine it would have taken your career to the heights it is now?
Being a part of Jerseylicious has given me a lot more exposure and the opporunities to promote my business and I am very grateful to my producer for giving me this opportunity. They just wanted to cover big and bold personalities in New Jersey that are in the cosmotology business and I am on the top of my business. I can do a great look but you also get a lot of attitude in there so it's interesting for people to watch. In that respect it was a shoe in. I was already dealing with divas that weren't scared of the big make up and hair so the show just gave me another platform to show that. With the show I am attracting more of that clientele that really wants my services so that is great. With my new show Glam Fairy the audience will see a world of talent and less drama. You will get to see more of the artistry in my own business, so the new show will concentrate more on what I can do as an artist, and less on just the drama between the personalities.
On the show there appears to be a lot of friction between you and Gayle. Has this always been the case and did it push you to open your own business, or did you always want to go in that direction eventually anyway? How is your relationship with her now?
I've actually had my own company for 8 years so Gayle had zero responsibility for me having my own business. I merged with her temporarily and it was only a bit of a business venture but I don't believe Gayle is a good person to do business with. In terms of friction that is going to be carrying on into season 3 of Jerseylicious and will be a great story, but in my opinion Gayle doesn't know how to have artistic integrity.
It is my belief that to be sane you have to act insane. Most people don't want to really acknowledge the fact that people are insane, and if you hold in all the frustrations and try to suppress it eventually you will burst and blow up at everyone. You prevent that from happening by letting off steam regularly and not holding back.
Congratulations on The Glam Factory and your new spin off show, Glam Fairy. The makeovers and transformations you will be doing on different groups of women sound truly inspirational. You seem to be doing great in life. What are your future goals for yourself and your business?
I am really working on a full life face lift at the moment. I am doing Glammy-puss photo, Glammy sessions and so many other ventures with my business. I believe there are two categories of women. Girls who just broke up with their boyfriends, are scarred and want to transform themselves, and the girls with fiances who want to show their man what they have. I am doing make up classes, glamminars, photo shoots and more. I am taking advantage of the visibility I have and also doing charity work. I plan to also offer new services and I'm looking into having a franchise. The show is giving me the tools to do all this. Jerseylicious is a docu-soap, but with this new show and exposure we are going to re-explore the transition women are going to make to glamazonia. It is going to show, head on, the transitions and also the drama in my life. You are going to see me dating and making future family plans, so it will bring an element of humanness. I do have faults like everyone else and I know my audience wants to identify with that. The new show will soften me a lot more and my audience will come to understand why I am the way I am. I am a self-made woman and I worked my way from the ground up. I never had a mommy and daddy funding anything for me and I worked for everything I have today.
Do you see yourself eventually coming out with your own perfume or makeup line?
A makeup line is something I am exploring with the Style Network. Right now I like Mac and Viva Glam.
The show Jerseylicious has an incredible following and popularity all over the world, including in Africa and Australia, even though it seems to really shine the light on New Jersey and the Jersey "look". What do you think the appeal of the show is for overseas viewers and do you think the portrayal of the New Jersey look is accurate?
We are dealing with a world in which people are super conservative but they are really closet cases. What you see on the show is what the audience really wants to be. The show portrays what the characters are really like on the outside. They are "out there" and they show it. It is the attitude that rocks when you have the leopard print on. It is about being confident and I have a lot of that.
I'm not going to be two pounds of bologna wearing a one pound cheetah print dress, like some of the girls on my show. With me you get confidence and attitude and I am totally what you see on the show. This appeals to people because I think a lot of times they wish they could show themselves in that light as well.
The show is known for emphasizing the Jersey look of the smokey eye and big hair. Do you believe in sometimes creating a more paired down and simpler look for occasions like a business meeting or interview?
I have no problem adjusting my skills for a person's needs if I can't get them out of their box. I think some people are scared to show a bit of cleavage because they think the world will collapse if they do, but I really believe in putting yourself out there and not being afraid to show who you are on the inside.
With the Royal Wedding coming up, what kind of wedding hair and makeup would you love to see on Kate Middleton that day?
Well I am having hot pink California closets installed right now and I am like a 125 pack of craola markers, so I might not be the best person to make up Kate Middleton for the Royal Wedding. I am not going to say she should look like the girls in the Addicted to Love video or ZZ Top videos, but if I could I would do extensions and give her big sexy hair, smokey eyes, nice dewey lips, and of course a bit of makeup never killed anyone.
