How to Search for a History on Sports Cars
- 1). Visit an efficient Internet search engine. Search engines are websites that scour and search webpages for the information you type in, then order the results by relevance.
For example, typing "PayPal" into a search engine box will provide the official company website first on the results list as this is the most relevant, followed by about pages, help pages and affiliate websites. As of 2010 the most popular and reputable search engines were Google, Yahoo, Bing, Ask and AOL. - 2). Type your search criteria into the search box. In this case, type "a history of sports cars" into the search field.
- 3). Increase the chances of your search by adding "and" to the criteria. Search for a history of a particular model of sports car by typing into the search field. For example, type "a history of sports cars and General Motors."
- 4). Add any further criteria into the box if necessary. For example, if you are searching for a book or essay titled "A History of Sports Cars" then type the title of the piece inside quote marks ("). This will let the search engine know that it is looking for the entire phrase "A History of Sports Cars" and not the separate words individually. Add the "and" phrase along with the type of thing you are looking for, for example a book or journal.
- 5). Exclude certain search results by using the word "not" in your criteria. In the same way that the "and" search addition works, typing "not" and your exclusion words will prevent the search engine from pulling any pages with those words in. For example, type "A History of Sports Cars not General Motors" to exclude any webpage that concerns the General Motors Company.
- 6). Click the "Search Now" or "Search" button to perform your search. Wait for a brief second or two and you will be taken to the results page.
