Snoring has been a problem that has mainly affected men.
It is even somewhat observed as a normal occurrence for men to have especially after a very long day at work or even just had a tough day.
More often than not, snorers do not have their conditions checked as some just think that it goes away or is not really an issue that deserves attention.
This is far from the truth, however, as snoring may cause severe health problems.
Moreover, men are not the only sufferers of snoring.
Women are recognized to be snorers as well but at only about half the rate of all men.
This means that in every ten snoring men, five women are snoring as well.
Why Snoring Happens To Men And Women Alike Snoring is the sound resulted from vibrations in the throat that moves air molecules to form sound waves.
There are various causes of snoring but usually involves habits in the daily life of men and women.
Snoring has many causes, including but not limited to the following: Intake of too much alcohol, overeating, no exercise, the position in which one sleeps, collapsing nostrils, breathing through the mouth, stuffiness of the nasal, taking in sleeping pills and smoking.
These causes show two interesting things about snoring.
First, it is often times a product of the lifestyle one lives.
Second, the amount of information, or misinformation, one has can also impact the frequency of their snoring habit.
Added Snoring Causes For Women Research suggests that snoring may be caused by additional factors when the affected individual is female.
The onset of menopause, to illustrate, is a factor that may trigger the development of a snoring habit in women but not in men.
It is thought that menopause causes snoring spells because estrogen levels begin to decrease, and the body thus becomes predisposed to the physical and psychological states that cause vibrations to occur in the nasal passageways.
Specifically, estrogen stimulates the respiratory system and prevents muscles from relaxing while asleep.
A decrease in estrogen leads to a corresponding decrease in the body's ability to prevent those muscles from relaxing, which may in turn lead to those structures relaxing and creating a blockage during the night.
Such a blockage is enough to cause a vibration to occur during the inhaling and exhaling of air, and an audible snore results.
Health Problems That Snoring Can Lead To Snoring may just be normal for some but in the medical world, snoring is a symptom of a health condition considerably related to obstructive sleep apnea, or OSA.
This is the most common of 3 different conditions, collective known as 'sleep apnea.
' Snorers do not realize that they only sleep lightly during the night because snoring interrupts what should have been a deep sleep.
When sleep is not enough during the night, drowsiness and mood swings can be experienced during the day.
Life seems to be stressful and demanding just because of lack of sleep.
If not given medical attention, sleep apnea can cause a lack of sleep that may greatly strain the affected individual both mentally and physically.
In most part, snoring is caused by certain lifestyle choices so changing it can also alter this.
For those who are smoking or taking in too much alcohol can reduce snoring by eliminating such practices in life.
Then if you are gaining weight because of overeating, add in some regular exercise routines that can fight off the fat from your body.
Eat right and eat more on what your body needs to keep snoring from happening again.
Sleeping on the side can help prevent you from snoring.
Study also says that investing in an adjustable bed will help you in getting the right sleep even when lying on your back, as sleeping with the upper body at a 2 to 4 inch incline is the most commonly recommended way to prevent a snore.
