How to Clear a Criminal Record in Iowa
- 1). Obtain a copy of your criminal record by going online to iowacourts.state.ia.us. Provide pertinent information about yourself such as your full legal name, what county your trial was held in and what type of offense you were accused of committing. Make copies of this information. Make sure to note the case number and citation number.
- 2). Create a Petition for Expungement. This is simply a detailed letter making a request that your record be expunged. Include your name, address, county of offense, the location of the court and the judge who presided over your trial, the case number and the citation number. Ask that your record be expunged.
- 3). Make several copies of your Petition and mail them to the court where your trial took place, the Sheriff of the police department that arrested you, the arresting officer and the Iowa State Attorney General. The contact information for the Attorney General is:
