10 Tips For Hemorrhoid Relief
As many of my readers know, I suffered with hemorrhoids for several years before finding some treatments that worked for me.
Although I still have occasional flare-ups my hemorrhoid problem is mostly under control.
I am happier, healthier and more productive.
Everyone is unique and thus and will react differently to each treatment.
That said, here is a list of the hemorrhoid remedies that worked best for me.
1.
Put your feet up.
I love to walk and I have a job that requires me to spend a lot of time on my feet.
I have found that simply putting my feet up for 10-15 minutes a few times a day reduced hemorrhoid swelling.
2.
Drink lots of water.
I try to drink 10 glasses of water a day.
This can be difficult when you are out and about but you can make up for it by drinking a glass or two first thing in the morning and again before going to bed at night.
In fact the first thing that I do when I get up is drink a large glass of water before having my coffee.
I also drink a large glass when I get home from work.
3.
Eat a dessert with fiber.
We all know that you need to eat a high fiber diet in order to cure the constipation that typically causes hemorrhoids.
I have found that an easy way to add fiber to my diet is to eat high fiber desserts such as fruit, dates and figs instead of cake or ice cream.
I know that this is not as fun as cake and ice cream but your hemorrhoids will thank you for it! 4.
Take a warm bath.
I have found that warm baths both reduce my stress and ease my hemorrhoid pain.
This is a great and soothing way to end the day.
5.
Use talcum powder.
I read somewhere that using a dab of talcum powder on the anal area after bathing helps healing by keeping the hemorrhoid dry.
I do this daily and it really seems to help.
6.
Use witch hazel.
When I am away from home I use witch hazel wipes to clean the area.
I have found that witch hazel reduces minor hemorrhoid swelling and it definitely helps keep the area clean.
These wipes come in packets that are discreet and easy to carry.
7.
Use over the counter hemorrhoid treatments.
I have tried creams and ointments but found these to be messy.
I prefer to use hemorrhoid suppositories when I am having one of my occasional flare-ups.
You can get these at the pharmacy or buy them online.
8.
Take a fiber supplement.
When I started out trying to cure my hemorrhoid condition I took some oral remedies that included fiber supplements.
This helped me regulate my bowel movements so that I was not straining so much on the stool.
I no longer need to take these since I've incorporated sufficient fiber and water into my diet.
9.
Apply ice packs.
When I was really experiencing a great deal of swelling I used ice packs on the affected area.
This was very helpful and not as uncomfortable as I thought it might be.
I had a special ice pack that I put into a clean plastic bag every time I used it.
10.
Get enough sleep.
I have been reading about some recent studies that indicate that the body heals itself during sleep.
I always found that my hemorrhoid condition was improved after a restful night's sleep or after a short nap.
These are the treatments that helped me battle my hemorrhoid problem.
As you can see, most of these cost very little or nothing at all.
I encourage you to try some of these remedies to see if they work for you!
