West Australia Opens Doors to Counter Shortage of Affordable Housing
West Australia sees the need for affordable housing Despite Australia's economic affluence, it is still beset with housing problems.
The need for affordable housing has been considered by Hon.
Troy Buswell BEc MLA, Minister for Housing.
In his message he states, "The Government will 'open doors' to increase the supply and diversity of affordable housing across Western Australia by taking bold, practical measures to generate at least 20,000 additional affordable homes by 2020".
According to the latest survey, Australian property prices are on the rise and Western Australia is at the highest.
By June 2012, sales of real property increased by 23.
5 percent.
The reason for such increase was due to plenty of jobs, decent amount of money, stable prices and low affordable interest rates, says Mr.

In fact, the Housing Industry Forecasting Group in its October report expected a 20 per cent increase in new house construction in the year 2012-2013.
To address this problem, the state government had called on to the Social Housing Taskforce to provide recommendations to address the housing needs.
A strategy was conceptualized to address the shortage of affordable housing in Western Australia.
In their December 2008 report, 'More than a Roof and Four Walls' provided the basis for the strategy.
The approach to the solution include the identification of actions that will help in providing more affordable private rentals and home ownership opportunities and strengthening the social housing system.
Affordable Housing Strategy 2010-2020 The government came up with a strategy called "Affordable Housing Strategy: Opening Doors 2010 - 2020.
" This state government initiated strategy mandates the Department of Housing to lead in the implementation of a 10-year strategy which aims to provide at least 20,000 affordable homes by 2020 to the most number of individuals.
The strategy also targeted the reshaping of the government's role in providing affordable housing units for the people in West Australia and shift from over concentration public rentals as the main solution.
It also encourages public and private partnerships to meet the increasing demands of housing requirements.
The strategy was designed in response to the growing needs of Western Australia to affordable housing for low to moderate income earners.
Since 2010, the plan had been working effectively.
As of August this 2012, there are more than 6,200 new affordable homes created, providing for more public and community housing units; more affordable private rentals;and more opportunities for first home buyers.
West Australia is now working positively to meet the strategic plan to provide 20,000 affordable homes by year 2020.
