For years the only recreation in the woodlands of northern Minnesota was the outdoor variety, but that all changed when the state allowed Indian reservations to operate casinos. Under the agreement, only blackjack and poker are allowed as table games, and slot machines must be electronic. While many casinos simply threw a few slot machines in a warehouse, some went the extra mile to build large complexes that offer much more than just gambling. - Owned and operated by the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa, the Fortune Bay Resort is located on the shores of Lake Vermillion in northern Minnesota. The resort complex includes a golf course, fishing along the lake shore and a marina where you can store or rent boats. The hotel features a large indoor pool that sits in a rustic wood enclosure. The resort even has 36 RV sites for campers or trailers. The casino features more than 700 slot machines, poker and blackjack tables and a large bingo hall.
