Retiring Takes Planning - Financial, Emotional and Physical
Retiring comes to peoples mind around middle age. However, like other things, most people put off planning for it until tomorrow because retiring is in the future and who knows what will happen then. We all have dreams, but few of us act on those. By the time we get around to planning for retirement, it is late in the game and we aren't financially, emotionally or physically prepared.
Planning for retirement is like buying a house. It takes a lot of time, effort, and perseverance. Those who are prepared will enjoy it. Those who aren't well good luck!
When you start to plan your retirement, you need to make plans for not only your financial needs but your emotional and physical needs as well.
Financial Needs Comes First
Everyone thinks about the financial aspect of retirement. True, that is a major part, but it is just one of the necessary elements of preparedness. Retiring is physical and emotional as well. This means you will have to plan for you physical and emotional well-being in addition to your financial well-being.
Emotional Needs
People have worked most of their lives and that work took up the majority of their time. In order to plan for retirement, one must consider what they plan to do to fill the extra time they now have.
Generally, we don't consider how much time we have to fill and then, after a few short months, we run out of ideas. Why? During our working years, we only needed to fill a few days or weeks of vacation. This time seemed to be too short and we thought we could vacation forever.
Truth be known, too much vacation will be too boring and too expensive. As human beings, our emotional needs vary and thus we should vary or retirement plans, as well. Generally, one does not think of their emotional needs. Therefore, they don't include them in their retirement plans.
To prevent boredom, think part-time job, exploring a hobby, or take up a sport like fishing or golf.
Physical Needs
The physical needs of retirement should be considered. As one gets older, their body slowly but surely deteriorates. Planning for retirement should be prioritized from the most strenuous activities to the least strenuous. This way you are sure to do the most strenuous activities while you still can. If you wait too long, you just might find your health won't hold up to some of the more daring adventures.
Financial Needs Must Meet Other Needs
Now consider the financial needs of retirement. Consider how much money you can save before you retire. The longer you have to save the more money you can set aside.
No matter how much money you say, unless you're Bill Gates, money will always be in question. Planning for retirement should be prioritized according to your financial, emotional, and physical capabilities. The more you prioritize the more you will accomplish. The more you accomplish the more you will enjoy retirement. Good planning makes for a good retirement.
