Show American Patriotism for Our Veteran"s with a Patriotic Gift Basket
November is the month that we celebrate our Veterans. We pay tribute to our soldiers here and overseas. This is an opportunity to show our American patriotism and support our troops. All over the country, there are different kinds of programs, parades and potlucks in honor of our military. If not for our military and our soldiers throughout history and now, we would not have the freedoms that we now enjoy. Think back to the times when our troops came home...Families and loved ones made every effort to ensure that their soldier had good things to eat and special parties were planned to welcome them.
Times have not changed that much since then; we still like to give gifts to our returning heroes. What better way to celebrate America, freedom and patriotism than with a patriotic gift basket? Show your loved one how much you care by creating a gift that is tailored to their favorite things.
First you will need a container for your gift. How about using a helmet for the basket? You can pick up one at any toy store. Now that you have a base for your basket, you need to decide what to use as your main focus. You might want to use a helicopter, tank, or perhaps a Hummer. Choose one that best fits what your hero does in the military. My son worked on helicopters, so I would do something that has to do with flying helicopters.
Once you have selected your main idea for the gift, then you can add additional items. Think of all kinds of ideas that have to do with the military. How about dog tags, collar devices, insignias, arm patches, medals, ribbons or arm bands? If your hero is still on active duty, you could also put in items that he or she could use in the future; such as formal gloves, socks, suspenders, ties, belt buckles or hat covers. The possibilities are endless. I am sure they would appreciate your generosity in thinking of them and showing them that patriotism in America is alive and well!
Of course, no gift basket is complete without treats to eat! Here is your chance to include their favorite snacks, sweets and/or drinks. Just tuck the goodies throughout the 'basket'. You can put in as much or as little as you like.
One thing that is an absolute must is Old Glory! No patriotic basket would be complete without our country's flag. You can either use it as part of the ribbon to tie it all together, or put it directly into the basket as an attention getter! Wrap your gift in red, white and blue ribbons and your gift is complete.
Veterans young and old should be honored for their sacrifices. Serving our country is something they chose to do, not something they HAD to do. Freedom is not free; it has been paid for through blood, sweat and tears by all branches of our military. Freedom is a gift we should cherish.
