How to Build Halloween Anamotronics
- 1). Purchase a building kit, such as K'Nex or Erector Set, that includes moving parts features, such as motors or wheels. K'Nex makes a walking spider kit that you can use for this project. Purchase these kits online or at toy stores, hobby and game stores, or department stores.
- 2). Assemble the model according to package directions. Follow the model's instructions included with the kit to build the model spider. If there are any parts of the spider that interfere with your intended final product, and are not essential to the spider's functionality; leave them out of the model.

Hide the animatronic's skeleton with fabric and other decorations. Make sure not to cover the skeleton in a way that inhibits its movement. Cut strips of black fabric, about 1/2 inch wide, and wrap them around the spider's legs, securing at each end with hot glue, and trimming any excess. Wrap the legs so they can move freely. - 4). Test drive the spider to make sure it can still walk after you wrap the legs. Double wrap the legs if some of the skeleton shows.
- 5). Cut a strip of black faux fur wide enough to cover the spider body's width and long enough to cover the body's length twice, with about 1/2 inch of extra fabric on each side. Cut a small hole in the faux fur where it will overlap the model's on/off switch.
- 6). Wrap the body with the faux fur strip. Overlap the excess fabric, and use that as a hem while gluing the sides together. Leave space where the legs connect to the body.
- 7). For the spider's head, wrap a small handful of cotton balls (about 2 or 3) with a square of black fabric. Gather the fabric's corners together, twist, and sew a few stitches through the twist to hold it shut. Trim any excess fabric, then hot glue the head to the spider's body. Or, sew the head to the faux fur.
- 8). Hot glue red beads to the head for eyes. Take the spider for another test drive to make sure none of the decorations interfere with its movement. Adjust as necessary.

Make sure the webbing is strong enough to support the spider's weight.Pixland/Pixland/Getty Images
Stretch fake webbing across a flat surface in your Halloween haunt, such as between the tops of four chairs. - 10
Place the spider on the webbing, switch it on, and watch it walk around on its web. If your model is remote-controlled, make the spider spring into action as soon as a guest walks by.
