The Honest Answer: No

• System Restore takes a snapshot of your Windows registry entries, and thus is able to restore drivers and software settings, but it often does not save or restore user-created data. System Restore restores "system" files, not your entire computer data collection. It is not as comprehensive as a hard drive data backup program. System Restore does not make minute backups of Outlook "profile" or .pst files. While that may seem puzzling, it's nevertheless true that Outlook generally seems not to fully integrate itself into the Windows world, a fact made obvious the first time you do a full "My Documents" data backup in Windows---and find nothing from Outlook was saved. So you should not assume that System Restore, or any other "restore" utility, can restore your Outlook data files.
  
  

A Possible Solution

• Using System Restore for some Outlook software problems would, in fact, be overkill even if it worked. If your Outlook program is misbehaving, do some online research, including visiting Microsoft Support online and try to fix your specific Outlook problem at the source. There is a wealth of information on the web about Outlook breakdowns and manual repairs, just short of reinstalling the program.
  
  

Reinstall, Not Restore

• If none of these discreet Outlook software solutions helps, break out your authentic Outlook or MS Office setup disc and reinstall Outlook, rather than rely on System Restore. This is a certain fix for 99 percent of all Outlook problems. Make a backup copy of your current data (.pst) files before reinstalling Outlook. Then create regular backups, manually, of your Outlook .pst files so you can restore emails, addresses, and calendars from these archives with confidence in the future.
