How to Make Your Own Postcard Backings
- 1). Change the size of the canvas in your photo-editing program. Go to "Image" in the top toolbar and click on "Canvas size." In the pop-up window, uncheck the "Maintain aspect ratio" box. Under "Print size," adjust the width and length to 3 1/2 by 5 inches, then click "OK." If the canvas is not flipped the way you like, go to "Image" and click "Rotate 90 degrees clockwise."
- 2). Add a line that goes down the center of the image, using the program's line tool. Click on the line tool button, which is usually in a floating toolbar on the left and represented by a line. To create the line, click and drag from the top of the card straight down, leaving a small amount of white space on each end.
- 3). Make room for the stamp. Click the tool button with a rectangle, often in a floating toolbar on the left, then click and drag to create a 1-by-1-inch box in the upper-right corner, using the ruler at the top and side of the window to guide you while placing the box.
- 4). Create text boxes for the address and personal message. Click on the text-box button in the floating toolbar, which is represented by a "T." Then adjust the font style and size to your liking with the drop-down boxes at the top. Click where you want to place the address on the right-bottom side of the card, then begin typing. You can do the same for the personal message section on the left part of the card.
- 5). Print the cards. If making the whole card on your computer, create a document the same size as the backing for the front-of-postcard graphic. Using card stock, print the backing on one side and the image on the other by going to "File" and then "Print" for each document. Choose the "3.5 by 5 inch prints" option in the photo-printing wizard if it comes up. If you are using sticker paper, print the postcard backing on the glossy side of the page.
- 6). Cut each printed item to the correct size. Affix the printed sticker paper backings to your photos or prints, or glue the printed card stock postcard fronts and backs together.
