    Types

    • Boston is divided up into different sections, which make the city easier to navigate around. The sections of the city are Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Chinatown, Downtown Crossing, Faneuil Hall, Fenway/Kenmore Square, Fort Point, Harvard Square, South End and North End. Each of these geographical points of Boston serves a purpose and adds to the charm and beauty of the city. Much of the city and its unique sections are located along the Boston Harbor, which leads into the Atlantic Ocean. Another important section, the Back Bay, is a very affluent part of Boston with important landmarks like the Prudential Center and Copley Square. The very popular Chinatown section of Boston offers tourists and residents a very ethnic experience. You will find authentic Chinese cuisine and a variety of Asian history and culture in this particular section of the city. Of course, you cannot visit Boston without going to Harvard Square. You can mingle with students while browsing through shops, local cafes and even parts of the famous school.

    Time Frame

    • Depending on when you plan to visit Boston, it is important that you plan according to certain dates and time frames. If you are going to Boston to see a Red Sox or New England Patriots game, remember to look up their schedules and plan accordingly. Check to see when they are playing and what dates they are playing home games. For other adventures, there are many attractions in Boston that are opened year-round, including the Downtown Crossing area with award-winning restaurants and their trendy clubs. Or there is the swanky Beacon Hill area with beautiful antique stores and fashionable boutique shops that are just as enjoyable in the wintertime as they are in the summer.

    Geography

    • Boston is located along the eastern coast of Massachusetts just minutes away from the Atlantic Ocean. Interstate 93 runs north and south through Boston and Interstate 91 runs east and west. Interstates 84 and 290 also go into the city from Hartford, Connecticut and Springfield, Connecticut respectively. State highways 1, 1A, 3 and 16 also run through the city. Boston is also situated only a couple of hours to the north of New York City, making it a convenient place for people who enjoy the metropolitan lifestyle while being tucked away in a less populated city.

    Size

    • Boston is a very big city with a population of well over 600,000 residents, as of the 2008 census. Boston is the largest city in Massachusetts and also the largest city in the entire New England region in terms of size and area. It is the 10th largest metropolitan city in the country and it is also considered to be the center of economic growth and culture in the regional area. Boston continues to grow as more residents discover the beauty of the region.

    Warning

    • Boston has many beautiful attractions to offer to tourists and residents. However, remember that Boston tends to be very cold in winter months. There is huge amounts of snow in winter months and the weather can be very blistery and cold. Be sure to dress accordingly if you visit between November and April. Dress in layers and bring gloves, hats and scarves. Also, make sure you are comfortable driving in the snow and ice. If you have never done so, you could be in for quite an adventure.
