How to Raise Angelfish
- 1). Feed newly hatched angelfish, once they start to swim, live baby brine shrimp two to three times a day. Baby brine shrimp is available at most pet stores.
- 2). Switch the fry over to adult brine shrimp or frozen or flake beef heart food when they are about 3 weeks old. Feed once or twice a day; three times a day is no longer necessary at this age.
- 3). Remove dead fry out of the tank daily to prevent water contamination.
- 4). Provide adequate space for the angelfish fry. Once an angelfish is nickel-sized, one gallon of water per fish is necessary. There must be adequate swimming space; if there is not, move some of the fry to another tank to prevent overcrowding.
- 5). Keep water temperatures at approximately 83 to 87 F. Make 50 percent water changes daily by removing half of the water and replacing it.
- 6). Test the water pH to maintain a balance of between 4.7 and 8.7. Use a pH testing strip or a master water testing kit, both of which are sold under various brand names. These include tests for water factors such as pH, ammonia, nitrate and other important variables.
