The charlier cut is the simplest form of cutting a pack of cards with one-hand.
You must also become aware of your hand size, the proper grips and positions in order for you to achieve this one-handed cut.
The charlier cut will be the foundation for most one-handed cut techniques.
In learning a one-handed cut, it does not matter the type or shape of your hands you can easily master this cut.
Also note you can use both hands in executing a one-handed cut.
In time your hands will adjust with the manipulation of the playing cards.
The mechanic's grip as follows, place the playing cards gently on your desired hand.
Rest your thumb directly on the nearest edge; index finger is position on top of the deck while the middle, ring and pinky rest slightly curled on the long edge.
Note keep your hand in a relax grip.
The straddle position as follows, while in mechanics grip, shift your pinky to the bottom edge of the pack.
Rotate your pinky upwards, at this point your thumb is no longer touching the pack of cards.
Index and pinky are on the opposite short edge of each other.
While the middle and ring finger rest lightly on the long edge of the pack.
In straddle position your index and pinky are the only fingers keeping the pack from falling off your hand.
Step One the charlier cut, while in straddle position; place your thumb on the deck, lift a small to medium packet upward.
The bottom packet wedges itself against your thumb forming a PAC-man mouth.
Step Two, move your index finger towards the back with the ring and middle finger, you can also do this during the lifting phase.
Step Three, keep your thumb on the upper packet, your index finger pushes the bottom packet forward forming the letter T.
Step Four, continue pushing the bottom packet until it touches your thumb; at the same time slightly move your thumb backwards, while still holding onto all of the cards.
The collapsing action will happen almost naturally when it passes the upper packet.
Learning the charlier cut is the grandfather of one-handed cuts, also is the easiest cut you'll be able to perform.
This versatile cut can easily be performed on both hands with limited time and with very little patience.
Use your own style to make the move seem harder than it really is, remember to always to have fun when learning something new.
