Whether spending the night in a wigwam, a train car or a vintage 1950's decorated aluminum trailer, Arizona offers three fantasy-themed motels that are sure to make the night more interesting. The Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Canyon Motel & RV Park in Williams, and the Shady Dell in Bisbee, Arizona are all fantasy-themed motels that are close to Arizona landmarks and parks.

    The Wigwam Motel

    • Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 and located on the old Route 66, the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook, Arizona boasts 15 tepees made from wood framing, concrete and stuco that are 32 feet tall and 14 feet wide. Prices include double or single beds, and the motel is near the Navajo, Hopi, and White Mountain Apache Reservations. The Wigwam Motel is only one of seven such hotels built in the United States, but it is the most notable because of its old route 66 locale, which includes a nod to the past with various vintage automobiles on the lot. The tepees have sloping walls, a cozy TV and desk area, and pointed tepee ceilings. The Wigwam Hotel also offers large-scale models and vintage memorabilia, which can be purchased at the gift shop.

    The Shady Dell

    • Campy, 1950s nostalgia can be found at the Shady Dell, where their motto is "mid century modernism is alive and well at the Shady Dell." Located in Bisbee, Arizona, the Shady Dell has 11 vintage 1950s trailers with interior Americana decor such as black and white, two-channel televisions and radios that play1950s music and variety shows. Books and magazines from the period and electric percolators in the kitchen add to the fantasy. Trailers, which can be rented for the night or the week, are adjacent to Dot's Diner, an authentic 1950s diner relocated from Wichita Kansas. The Shady Dell has been in operation since 1927 as a trailer and camp site, and it continues to offer RV hookups alongside the 11 aluminum vintage trailers, which all have individual themes like tiki bus,' royal mansion and homemade. The trailer park is in close proximity to the town of Bisbee, the Chiricahua National Forest, the Cochise Stronghold and the Ramsey Canton Nature Conservancy.
