Flyball - A Sport For Any Dog

103 13
How does it Work? Flyball is essentially a very simple sport.
Dogs must run down a straight line of hurdles, clearing all jumps and not deviating from the path.
When the dog reaches the end he must step on the flyball box to release the tennis ball, which he takes in his mouth and carries back, clearing the same hurdles he previously jumped over.
The team with the quickest time wins! Who Can Play? One of the reasons why flyball is so great is because it is all inclusive; dogs of any size, gender, or breed are welcome.
In fact, variety is encouraged on a flyball team.
The team needs a great starter, like a border collie, who is the greased lightening of the game.
Then come the anchors, the backbones of the team, who are steady and reliable runners and retrievers.
But don't forget the little guys! The height of the hurdles is measured by the smallest team member, so a little dog can really lower the hurdles for everyone else.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes are welcome to play flyball, which makes it a great sport for compassionate people who have adopted mixed breed dogs from the pound.
If you want to get involved in flyball check with your local vets or Humane Society to see if there are any organizations in town.
Even if your dog never goes "pro" it is still a fun game to play together.
So, what are you waiting for? Your dog is ready to go!
