They are facing the most difficult time of their lives.
Some Senior Facts Here are some facts that are in connection with the growing number of older people in America.
These things should serve as food for thought: · Two out of every 16 Americans are over 65.
· The older population is set to double in the period from year 2000 to 2030.
· At the end of that period 25% of Americans would be over 65 years old.
· Nearly half of the senior citizen population will have health related problems connected with nutrition.
· One out of every ten person over 65 will get Alzheimer's disease.
The rate would increase to about 50% for those aged over 85 years old.
Those are alarming figures and there is really nothing that can be done in order to stop it.
The best thing that we can do is to deal with all of it.
Problems Faced by Seniors There are so many challenges faced by seniors today.
We have to know about these problems in order to be ready to help them deal with it.
They wouldn't be able to handle all these things on their own.
· The biggest problem faced by seniors of course is their deteriorating physical and mental health.
There is nothing that can be done in order to stop or even reverse this natural effect of aging.
This is why special arrangements and facilities should be arranged for older people.
· Another major issue is financial instability.
For a majority of seniors, they would be reliant on their retirement savings and their benefits.
The problem is that in most cases, these sources would be totally inadequate to meet the expenses that they need.
· Loneliness is a major issue that has to be dealt with by seniors.
As they grow older most people become isolated as the years pass by.
This problem becomes even more acute when the spouse of the senior passes away leaving him completely alone.
· Most seniors face the problem of boredom with having plenty of time in their hands and having nothing really gainful to do.
Since they could no longer work, many seniors don't have anything productive that they can do.
It can be a real challenge for most of them.
The Nursing Home Solution For some families, the easiest solution is to place the senior relative in a nursing home.
Though it can be expensive it is a lot more convenient for them.
The problem is that it cannot resolve all issues faced by seniors.
How about those who would like to stay in their own place? What is the best way to deal with them? Their homes would have to be remade in such a way that they can stay safe.
All places on the house that might potentially cause some harm would have to be taken care of.
You need to look in to all things.
