Social Networking and the Intellectual Back Track

103 9
It is a well known fact that when you are in mixed company you have to be very careful with what you talk about.
Usually when you go to parties in the real world, you find that people like to chitchat and yet all they talk about is the weather, or silly little things that don't really matter.
If you start an intellectual conversation only some people will engage you and others are not interested.
It's almost as if it is taboo to talk about anything that is serious while at a party setting.
The same thing seems to be true in most social networks; no not all, but the big popular ones that have hundreds of millions of people on them.
Assume that we are dummying down the conversations to keep everyone happy.
But why on earth would we do that? Dummying Down our population online is nothing to be proud of period.
I think what you'll also find is on Internet forums as soon as one person comes up with an intellectual conversation another person will turn down the conversation.
Then the first person will backtrack on their own intellectual comments to keep the conversation alive.
But why should they do that, if no one wants to talk about anything important why is everyone wasting their time? The social network intellectual backtrack is so common, that it is as if it is planned.
The same thing happens in the real world at parties where you have many PhD's, and well accomplished people in their field who won't talk about anything important and stick to trite comments about things that don't even matter while they sip on wine.
Why are we dumbing down of human populations?
