There are exciting and fun-filled party games but nothing comes close to the entertainment and all-out fun that Taboo game could deliver.
This word-guessing game has gained popularity and even became the inspiration for the 2002 game show with the same name.
There are different variations of this party entertainment from its 1989 edition to its latest 2009 20th anniversary edition.
There are versions created by Milton Bradley and the Taboo Junior Edition by Hasbro.
Although this game has some similarities with the Catch Phrase game, it has some tweaks in its mechanics to help players guess the right words or phrases.
Depending on the version of the game you are playing, you generally get few hundred cards where you see printed words on both sides.
There is also an hourglass type of one-minute timer, the tray for storing and holding the cards, the buzzer and the pencil and paper for scoring.
The Taboo game players are divided into teams A and B.
Each team chooses a clue-giver who prompts his teammates and gives hints to make the right guess.
The clue-giver sits facing his teammates and the card holder along with the nearby timer at hand.
All players of team B sit beside or behind the clue-giver of team A so that they could see the played cards.
The members of team B control the buzzer and teams take turns in doing the same pattern.
The clue-giver draws a particular card from the card deck or holder to find out what keyword should his teammates guess.
The word printed on top of the card is the keyword or the Guess word.
The five words printed below the Guess-word are the forbidden or Taboo words which the clue-giver must never say in providing his hints.
For every taboo word spoken, the team B presses the buzzer and the clue-giver proceeds to the next word.
There are also penalty points for saying the taboo words but no penalties for every wrong guesses from the teammates.
The Taboo game timer is turned over and starts when the clue-giver draws a card from the card holder.
Clues to give the teammates must be detailed single words, phrases or sentences as long as you do not say the taboo words in the card.
The rule says that the clue-giver must not include the abbreviation of the taboo words along with the words that rhyme with it.
Gestures, drawing and sounds are not permitted although singing is allowed provided the clue-giver does not whistle or hum a tune.
For exciting and strategic games for the entire family, Taboo game is undoubtedly a top-grossing entertainment.
Use your strategic skills and enrich your potentials to play with words to score and earn victory!
