    Comparisons

    • Depending on the year and model, the Ford Explorer Sport Trac tends to be larger and heavier than similar vehicles in its class. For instance, the 2009 Sport Trac has a curb weight of 4,583 lbs, heavier than its closest competitor, the 2009 Honda Ridgeline, which has a curb weight of 4,504 lbs, and the 2009 Nissan Frontier crew cab, which has a curb weight of 3,664 lbs.

    Considerations

    • The Sport Trac is built like other SUVs, except that it has a pickup bed in the back whereas other SUVs would have a larger enclosed cargo area. This required that the Sport Trac be 17 inches longer and slightly heavier than the Explorer SUV. In its review, Cars.com described the 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac as "heavy."

    Engine Sizes

    • The 2010 Ford Explorer Sport Trac comes in either a 4.0-liter V6 engine with 210 horsepower, or a 4.6-liter V8 engine with 292 hp. Car and Driver recommended the V8 engine because the V6 was underpowered for the Sport Trac's size and weight.
