Until 1937, the Pickwick area was mainly farmland. Then, Pickwick Dam was built, which flooded the farmland and made Pickwick Lake and an entirely new community of lake dwellers in southern Tennessee. Pickwick is near Savannah, the county seat, which is 12 miles from the lake. The area is home to Pickwick Landing State Park, Shiloh National Military Park and the Buford Pusser Home & Museum. The area is also referred to as Pickwick Landing and Pickwick Dam. Vacationers have the option of log cabin lodging.
