Until 1937, the Pickwick area was mainly farmland. Then, Pickwick Dam was built, which flooded the farmland and made Pickwick Lake and an entirely new community of lake dwellers in southern Tennessee. Pickwick is near Savannah, the county seat, which is 12 miles from the lake. The area is home to Pickwick Landing State Park, Shiloh National Military Park and the Buford Pusser Home & Museum. The area is also referred to as Pickwick Landing and Pickwick Dam. Vacationers have the option of log cabin lodging. - Pickwick Landing State Park offers swimming, boating, fishing and a marina. The park is made up of 1,400 acres, where you'll find hiking trails, picnic areas, a golf course and areas for sports and games. The cabins at Pickwick Landing are near the inn, which has many amenities, such as a restaurant, wireless Internet access, swimming pools (indoor and out) and a gift shop.
Each cabin comes with central air or heat, cable television, a kitchen and a fireplace. The cabins feature four double-beds, so they easily sleep eight people per cabin. The kitchen comes fully equipped with cooking utensils, plates and silverware.
Rates as of March 2010 are $104 per night Sunday through Thursday and $120 per night Friday and Saturday.
