"It will shock most people to hear who my early influences were. I listened to Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, U2, The Greatful Dead, Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers and Eric Clapton. I was a huge fan of Billy Joel and the Counting Crows and eventually gravitated towards Weezer, Ben Folds, Superdrag, Travis and many others."

Early Days of the Band:

Andrew McMahon, Kevin "Clutch" Page, and Brian Ireland were all teenage members of the band Left Here. In 1998 they began jamming together with Josh Partington who had met Andrew McMahon at a party. Soon the band evolved into the first incarnation of Something Corporate. Reuben Hernandez on rhythm guitar was part of this first lineup, but he was replaced by William Tell in March, 2001.

Something Corporate on Drive-Thru Records:

The band signed with independent label Drive-Thru Records and released their first official recording, an EP titled Audioboxer, in October, 2001. The band's sound landed somewhere between post-grunge alt-rock and melody-driven emo. The single "If You C Jordan" <Listen> landed in the top 30 of Billboard's modern rock singles chart. On the strength of response to Audioboxer, Drive-Thru signed a distribution agreement with MCA.

Leaving Through the Window:

The album Leaving Through the Window, distributed by MCA, was Something Corporate's official major label debut. It appeared in May, 2002, and, after relentless touring in suppoort of the collection, it eventually sold over 250,000 copies. "Punk Rock Princess," <Listen> a single from the album, reached the pop top 40 in the U.K.

Trivia Fact About Something Corporate:

As a child, Something Corporate vocalist Andrew McMahon insisted on wearing a button-down shirt and necktie. He was a fan of the character Alex Keaton from the television show Family Ties.

North:

In October 2003, Something Corporate released their second full-length album North. It debuted at #24 on the Billboard albums chart and included the modern rock hit single "Space." <Listen> By February 2004 the band confirmed that William Tell had left and they continued as a 4-member band with Bobby "Raw" Anderson filling in as guitarist for Something Corporate's concert tour.

Outside Projects:

Citing exhaustion from their rigorous touring schedule, various band members embarked on outside projects in 2004 and 2005. Josh Partington formed the band Firescape and released an EP titled Rearden's Conscience. Andrew McMahon recorded solo as Jack's Mannequin and released the album Everything in Transit.

Andrew McMahon's Battle With Leukemia:

In May 2005, just as he was releasing his Jack's Mannequin album, Andrew McMahon was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In addition to two rounds of chemotherapy, he also underwent a stem cell transplant in August 2005. By October his leukemia was declared in remission.

In January 2006 McMahon played his first public concert since being stricken by leukemia. The concert took place at L.A.'s Viper Room. He was joined for part of the concert by rock legend Tommy Lee.
