Johnny Depp is one of the greatest actors of our time. He has the ability to play a wide range of characters and has a penchant for choosing scripts that are destined to become international blockbusters. Many of Depp's movies are constantly being shown on satellite TV, so you almost always have an opportunity to catch one of them. Over the past ten years some of his greatest films have include the Pirates of the Caribbean series.

In the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Depp plays Captain Jack Sparrow, a comedic and witty pirate with a hankering from alcohol and women. Jack is quite eccentric, seems to have a way to talk his way out of everything and pretty much lives by his own rules. In the first film of the series, the Curse of the Black Pearl, Jack teams up with Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom, in an attempt to rescue Will's love interest Elizabeth Swann who has been kidnapped by another band of pirates who are lead by the feared Captain Barbossa. The unlikely pair are not united by the common interest of saving Elizabeth, played by the beautiful Keira Knightly, but because Jack is after the treasure that Captain Barbossa seeks and the key to finding the treasure lies with following Elizabeth and Captain Barbossa to the mysterious Isla de Muerta off the Caribbean coast where the treasure is supposed to lie.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is action-packed and full of vibrant scenes and sword battles and is a perfect movie to watch in high definition. Depp does an excellent job of portraying Captain Sparrow in this first film of the series; so much so that you hardly notice the film is over two and a half hours long. The second film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, The Dead Man's Chest, is a continuation of the first story and has many of the same characters as Curse of the Black Pearl. In this installment, Captain Sparrow is thrown back into the pirate's life when he learns that he owes a blood debt to the legendary Davy Jones who lives beneath the sea. Jack must find Davy Jones' heart that's in a "locker" in order to get out of spending the rest of time in eternal servitude. Luckily for Jack, Elizabeth and Will Turner are there to help for more reasons that one. In the beginning of the film, Will and Elizabeth are supposed to be married, but then are both arrested for helping free Jack from prison. And they can only be released if they find Jack again and deliver him to the English court.

Dead Man's Chest is also an excellent movie to watch in high definition, and can be found on satellite TV movie channels quite often. The special effects are amazing, the costumes are very well done and the acting is of great quality; especially the role of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow and Bill Nighy as Davy Jones.
