Does green tea help you lose weight? There is lot of news floating around everywhere regarding the correctness or otherwise of this.
Many people believe that this tea actually helps in controlling weight and lot of people are switching over to this beverage in place of coffee and other drinks.
But the question remains.
Does it really help you lose weight? Let us try and explore.
Though there are different views and schools on the thought if a special tea will help you to lose weight, the general agreement is that a few cups of tea daily, especially the green one,do really help in metabolism and we can lose around 60 to 70 calories per day.
This is good considering the fact that this calorie loss is achievement without much exercise or dieting.
Some American and other researchers feel that apart from being a good anti-oxidant green tea actually accelerates the metabolism rate and there are some articles which state that the metabolism rate goes up around 4 to 5% because of consuming this sort of tea.
Another reason for green tea to act as a weight reducing agent is that it has properties which reduce appetite and therefore prevent a person from overeating.
One more important benefit derived by making green tea a habit is that it stops the person from drinking more damaging and calorie enhancing drinks such as coffee, milk with rich cream, etc.
However, there are some flip sides to tea drinking, which raises again the question if simply drinking tea will help you lose weight.
Such tea like other beverages contains caffeine and it is not recommended for people with hypertension and other ailments.
Hence consumption of green tea by such people could be more harmful than beneficial.
One more important component in green tea is EGCG which has properties which aid in faster burning of calories and this could be one reason why it is widely used for controlling weight the normal way without taking recourse to hard dieting and even harsher exercise programs.
Though there are no conclusive and fool-proof evidence to the question does green tea help you lose weight, it is worth the try considering the metabolism properties it has.
If nothing it tastes very good and could help prevent drinking of even more damaging beverages like coffee, beer or those aerated soft drinks.
