Well known newspaper The Daily Telegraph has awarded Istanbul as a runner up in its 'Best Cultural City' and 'Greatest Cultural Destination' awards.

Voted for by judges led by the author Anthony Horowitz of Daily Telegraph, as well as Telegraph's readers, the prestigious awards ceremony held in London looking at the 50 Greatest Cultural Destinations, Istanbul did extremely well only second to Rome in both categories.

The Director of the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in London, Tolga Tuyluoglu stated.

'I am delighted that Istanbul's status as a top cultural destination has been recognised in this way. These awards undoubtedly celebrate the achievements of Istanbul as a European City of Culture in 2010. They also underline the importance of Turkey's cultural attractions to the UK market,'

Research undertaken by Mintel for the Turkish Culture and Tourism Office in the UK early in 2011 highlighted the importance of Turkey's history and culture for UK tourists. The report expressed that aside from beaches and sunshine, culture and history were a couple of the primary attractions for British tourists to Turkey and Istanbul.

71% of people who took part in the in the survey revealed that they had attended historic sites or museums during their stay in the country.

Istanbul's popularity continues to increase for tourists which had led to an increase in the demand for property in Istanbul. Luxury builds have proven and are still very popular with overseas investors as they provide good rental yields and high capital growth.

This attention is great news for Istanbul property investors who own properties in the city as it will of course attract even more tourists to the city.

The report also named the popular investment hotspot as second in Europe under existing property performance, outranking other locations such as London, Paris, Munich and Warsaw.

For investors looking to purchase properties in Turkey, both reports show signs of growth and stability within the country, thus making opportunities such as new-build, buy-to-let developments an attractive choice for those looking for hassle-free property investments, especially property in Istanbul.

Luxury accommodation has proven to be popular in Istanbul, with new developments offering high quality interior design, parking and en-suite bathrooms. Mayfair Residence is a perfect example of a luxury buy-to-let development in Istanbul. The development offers investors a 2 year protected rental guarantee at 7% per annum and expected yields thereafter rising above 9% before capital growth.
