What Cat Furniture Is
While having lunch with a friend, I mentioned that I was thinking about buying a piece of cat furniture for my fur baby.
She looked at me like I had two heads and then asked "Oh, like little tables and chairs?" Sort of like doll house furniture but for cats she asked.
It was so hard not to laugh but I maintained a straight face and replied "No, cat furniture is made especially for feline needs with sisal scratching post(s) and usually covered with a soft plush material.
Some have soft plush flat boxes for a cat to sit and look out the window and some even have what is called a condo that is a plush covered box with an entry hole in it so he/she can climb inside and feel like they have a private space.
"Oh," she said, "like those I have seen in some of the department stores?" Bingo! She knows that cat furniture is not little tables and chairs after all! It was surprising that someone actually thought that little tables and chairs would be used by a cat! After the initial almost laughing out loud, she was given a thorough education on why our feline friends need cat furniture.
Aside from a nice soft warm place for kitty to nap and/or hide, the scratching post allows kitty to stretch and sharpen their claws on something other than the couch.
They often come with a hanging toy that entices them to play.
Catnip can be sprinkled on the lower and higher levels to encourage running, jumping and climbing.
Indoor kitties especially need to exercise to avoid becoming overweight.
Stretching to use the scratching post, running and climbing helps to maintain healthy muscles as well as a fun activity for kitty.
Actually some of them can be custom made in a variety of colors that will fit nicely into the room decor.
You can select the color you prefer when ordering the purrfect piece of cat furniture for your feline friend.
There are tall ones, short ones and some even go from the floor to the ceiling! There are so many options, types, styles and price ranges that anyone who has an indoor cat can afford a great piece of cat furniture for their fur baby.
