AND THE BETA GOES ON
This new site was created for many purposes and primary among them was to be able to deliver local news to anyone anywhere. We still hold this concept vital as the site continues to develop. The site is also intended as an advertising vehicle where word of your business or cause can be delivered to a worldwide audience. Interesting concept seeing how the Star is a local publication yet potentially reaches every spot in the world. However, unique situations exist where this odd combination could serve a business nicely. For example, say locally you produced or sold a product that has universal or at least regional appeal or need. Maybe the products vary from counter tops, custom cabinets, Internet banking, military tactical gear, lawn mower parts, locally produced wine, real estate or fine clothing for women and children. These are some types of the businesses we are familiar with as we walk downtown, but what if they were suddenly presented to folks everywhere via the Star's website? Just a thought-the truth of the matter is, no one including the daily newspapers has this figured out. The first ones to do so, we suspect, will find themselves in a very lucrative situation.
Let's hold our horses here momentarily. Our objective is to serve the reader no matter if they are reading the actual newspaper or online. Again, be assured we will not share your e-mail address or any other information with anyone. As for the pie in the sky notion of making millions on Internet advertising via the Star's website, we don't expect that to happen. We would like, however, to at least generate enough revenue off the site to offset the cost of presenting it. These are just some thoughts on the new Star site. We would like your thoughts, too. Tell us what you think by visiting the Star at http://www.thesmstar.com and click the "contact" button, e-mail us at star@oct.net, call us at 437-2935 or just stop by and say hey.
