March 2003: What's Next in Allergy and Clinical Immunology?
Many exciting things are happening at Medscape Allergy & Clinical Immunology as 2003 unfolds. At this writing, we on our way to the 60th Anniversary Meeting of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI) in Denver, Colorado. If you wish to register or get information about the AAAAI meeting, it is still not too late. From that meeting, we are planning to have news and CME conference coverage of selected sessions.
We have just posted a Clinical Update entitled, "Therapeutic Potential of PDE4 Inhibitors in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease." This Clinical Update describes state-of-the-art research in this new and exciting area of research. Be sure to read the article and do the posttest for CME.
The Allergy & Clinical Immunology Journal Scan provides a continuous monthly review of interesting and topical journal articles from specialty and general journals. To get a quick look at what has been published recently in the field, take a look at the latest Allergy & Clinical Immunology Journal Scan. The most current Allergy & Clinical Immunology Journal Scan has just been posted. This month's edition reviews articles on consequences of rhinovirus infection, school-based health centers for inner-city asthmatic children, use of montelukast in RSV, and airspace geometry assessed by CT in asthmatics.
We have a number of interesting articles that continue to be posted from our publishing partners, including recent articles from Current Opinion in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Chest, Current Medical Research and Opinion, and many others. From Current Opinion in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, we have just posted an article entitled, "Role of Intestinal Flora in the Development of Allergy." From the journal Chest, we have just posted an article entitled, "Top Ten List in Asthma." And from the journal Current Medical Research and Opinion, there is an article entitled, "Formoterol Delivered Via a Dry Powder Inhaler (Aerolizer*): Results From Long-Term Clinical Trials in Children." From WebMD Scientific American Medicine, we have posted 2 articles. One is entitled, "What's New in Medicine: Getting Ahead and Staying Ahead of Asthma," and the other is entitled, "What's New in Medicine: FDA Approval Report."
In addition to the AAAAI meeting described above, the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) will be taking place June 6-11, 2003 in Paris, France. Remember to register early.
Also, do not forget to read the Conference Coverage from the 60th Annual Meeting of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) that took place in San Antonio, Texas.
Finally, the Medscape Allergy & Clinical Immunology Ask the Experts program continues to be a great success. Clinicians will continue to see new questions and answers posted as they come from our expert panel. If you are a physician and have a question, go to the Allergy & Clinical Immunology home page, scroll down to the "Discussions" section, and select the "Submit a Question" link.
I also urge readers to visit the Asthma Resource Center on the Allergy & Clinical Immunology home page. It contains the most up to date information on asthma as well as offering opportunities for CME. Also, the Smoking Resource Center has recently been updated as well. Visit them both.
If you are a physician and have an allergy-related case study that presented a particularly interesting challenge that you would like to post on the site, please send it to me at Allergyeditor@webmd.net. The cases will be presented in an interactive format that links into the discussion section of the site as well, allowing users to comment on the cases.
As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns about what you see on the site or wish to suggest a new program that you would find useful, please feel free to email me at Allergyeditor@webmd.net. If you are experiencing technical difficulties, please contact our customer support staff at Medscapecustomersupport@webmd.net.
