    History

    • Saturn was officially established in 1985 as a subsidiary of General Motors Corp., with the first car released in 1990. In 2008, GM declared bankruptcy and proposed to sell Saturn to Penske Automotive. However, the deal fell through, essentially condemning Saturn to death.

    Company

    • Saturn operated outside the GM infrastructure, with about 350 dealers in the United States. The cars were produced in the United States with plants in Tennessee and, later, Delaware.

    Types

    • The first Saturn cars were the S-Series, followed by the L-Series. Over its life span, Saturn produced sedans, coupes, station wagons, minivans and crossover SUVs.

    Brands

    • Some of Saturn's brands and models include the L-Series, a sedan with a station wagon variant; the S-Series sedan and coupe; and the Relay, a minivan. Saturn differentiated itself with its approach to used car sales, guaranteeing that used cars were good.

    Fun Fact

    • Saturn's millionth car was nicknamed "Jasper." It was an SC2 sports coupe in the S-Series, rolling off the production line in 1995.
