As 2010 Draws to a Close, Create an End-Of-The-Year Checklist

Life is busy and sometimes items on your to-do list never quite get done.
In some cases, that is not a problem; if the items are relatively unimportant, it may not make a difference if you complete them.
However, some tasks make a difference in terms of health, safety, and well-being for you and your family.
You can view the end of the year as an opportunity to make a new checklist for those important tasks that did not get checked off during the year.
When the important items are checked off on your end-of-the-year list, you will be able to relax and enjoy the end of 2010 as you prepare to ring in 2011.
Use the following items to start your checklist.
Think back on this year; add any important tasks you were not quite able to complete as well as any items that occur to you even if they were not on an original to-do list.
√ Replace the batteries in your smoke detectors - It is important to do this at least once a year.
Many people choose to do this when they reset the clocks for daylight savings time; however, if you did not do it then, do it now to ensure your continued safety in the event of a fire in your home.
√ Storm windows - Did you remove your window screens and replace them with storm windows for the winter? This task serves many purposes.
In addition to keeping cold air out and warm air in during the winter months, this will keep your heating bills lower and make your home more energy efficient.
√ Gather tax documents - Do not wait until right before the tax deadline to begin gathering your tax documents.
In addition, create a system of folders for this type of paperwork; that way, you can use the system year after year rather than struggling with this issue on an annual basis.
√ Vacuum out the ductwork from your clothes dryer - Although this may not seem like an important task, it is.
The ductwork can get clogged with lint just as the filter in your dryer does.
You clean the filter in your dryer on a regular basis, but you may not be aware of cleaning out the ductwork, as well.
If the ductwork becomes very clogged, it could cause a fire.
√ Follow instructions relevant to your furnace filter - Over time, your furnace filter gets dirty.
As your furnace heats your home, that dirt can enter your home, as well.
Keep the air in your home cleaner by changing the filter per the instructions.
With some items on your to-do list, it may not really matter if you cross them off.
Other items, though, are important enough to put on a new checklist.
Get to work and check things off as you complete them.
Besides keeping you safe, it will give you a great sense of accomplishment and prepare you to welcome 2011.
