    Opening

    • The Chicago Theatre opened on October 26, 1921 with a showing of the movie "The Sign on the Door." Admission price ranged from 25 to 35 cents per person, depending on the show time.

    Architecture

    • The Chicago Theatre is designed in the French Baroque style. The lobby is five stories high and is based on the Royal Chapel at Versailles. The theatre seats 3,600 people.

    Restoration

    • The Chicago Theatre became run down and closed its doors on September 19, 1985. It was saved from demolition and purchased and restored by the Chicago Theatre Restoration Associates along with help from the city.

    Status

    • The Chicago Theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic places in 1979 and was declared a Historic Chicago Landmark in 1983.

    Fun Fact

    • Frank Sinatra was the headlining act on September 10, 1986 when the restored Chicago Theatre reopened.
