Eating the Puff Spongebob Squarepants may have contributed another unforgettable character or persona in his show that goes by the name 'Mrs.
Puff'.
This widow is Spongebob's ever-patient driving instructor or teacher that when stuck in a surprisingly unusual scenario (that is most probably caused or related to Spongebob's misadventures), she usually 'bursts' or 'puffs out' as her reaction.
Other than this satirical portrayal of this sea creature, 'Fugu' (a Japanese term), puffer fish or blowfish has been an icon in terms of Japanese cuisine.
Though one of the favorite and most celebrated dishes in Japan, others would assess it as notorious because an improper handling of this fish would prove to be very poisonous.
Porcupine fish is another term for this marine being.
Toxic-Free Blowfish Puffer fish have deadly quantities of tetrodotoxin, a known poison that greatly affects the skin, ovaries and the liver as well.
The victim poisoned with tetrodotoxin would eventually die of asphyxiation as the sodium channel blocker (the content of the poison) would paralyze the muscles with the victim fully conscious.
Unfortunately, the usual treatment of this poison is to support the circulatory and respiratory systems until the poison dispels because the antidote against tetrodotoxin is still not known.
However, this lethal aspect of this fish did not stop persons in eating them.
Marine scientists and fishermen have mass-produced poison-free porcupine fishes.
According to studies, the poison or the toxic that blowfishes possess could possibly from feasting on other animals or bacteria laden with tetrodoxin but they have developed resistance over time.
A town in Oita Prefecture, Usuki, has been recognized because of their marketing of non-poisonous fugu.
How Big Are They? According to researches and studies, blowfishes could reach 39 inches (or 100 centimeters), though a lot of them could not reach that span.
Even though blowfish and puffer fish are used interchangeably and are very relative with each other, these two marine creatures are definitely unique.
Fugu's Usual Food Preparations Though this fish is said to be very lethal, a lot of individuals, especially Japanese locals 'risk' their lives just to have a taste of this deadly fish in a lot of various ways.
Fugu could be in a salad called Yubiki.
The Tetchiri or Fugu-chiri is a kind of stew which is characterized by light sensation of the fish.
Blowfish could also be fried-cooked as with the Fugu Kara-age dish and best eaten with Hire-zake (a variation of the hot sake).
Another Japanese dish from fugu is the Shirako (soft roe) and of course, the ever popular sashimi which is also called the Fugu tessa or sashi.
