What Is a Scissors Truss?
Definition: A scissors truss is a building element that helps form the ceiling and roof areas of a house or other structure. The scissors truss is used to create a vaulted or cathedral ceiling.
Conventional trusses are shaped like a triangle, with three straight sides. The bottom side of the scissors truss, though, has one side that is peaked upward to form the vault for the room below.
Today, scissors trusses tend to be built off-site by specialized truss companies, rather than by the on-site carpenters.
