Starcraft 2 Zerg Tactics

101 10
The Zerg swarm consists of a lot of different species that all are produced to fill specific tasks.  Zerg are best suited for bigger areas and wide open spaces.  Their troop are speedy and cheap to build, but are weak compared to the Protoss and Terran races.  The Zerg attack best by overrungning the enemy, so do your best to attack with big quantities of troops and wide open areas.  Attempt to stay away from tight places like ramps and chokes.  Do not forget that you can burrow - Roaches, Infestors, and Banelings benefit significantly from this upgrade.  Make sure to check out Zerg Micro Strategies and Zerg Macro Strategies for many more really useful strategies.

Be certain to scout your opponent and determine your game plan based on the buildings and troops you see.  There is no one tactic that emerges victorious all the time, since winning strategies need the flexibility and adaptability based on your opponent's tactics. The Zerg Scouting Guide has detailed tactics on how to scout your opponent as well as how to defend against enemy scouts.

Spreading out your Creep is critical during the game.  Creep supplies you with significant benefits.  It permits your units to move from 30% to 170% (for the queen) more quickly. Your buildings will eventually die by themselves without a Creep providor nearby.  Unlike other species, the Zerg have to make mining units and fighting units from the same resource, which means it is incredibly important to carefully plan the use of your production capacities.  A significant factor for your build will be the number of Hatcheries and Larvae you possess.  Generally, it's wise to spawn as many Drones as possible for as long as you can.

Zerg Baneling Bust Tactic
The Baneling Bust is an attack manuever that focuses on walled in (usually Terran) opponents.  The tactic works by using your Zerglings as a decoy as you dominate the map and kill enemy scouts with use of secret Baneling nest.  Begin by spawning Zerglings as soon as possible and move out when you've spawned around 12-15 Zerglings and an extra 8 to convert into Banelings.  As you are generating the Baneling nest, make certain to research Zergling speed.  Deploy 2 Zerglings as a decoy while your Banelings puts an opening in their wall.  Then you can either kill the defenders or take advantage of your improved circumstances.  Make sure to keep your Baneling nest concealed - this attack is most effective when it's a surprise attack.

Roach/Hydralisk
This is a straightforward tactic of allowing your roaches to act as a shield while your Hydralisks do huge amounts of harm.  Typically it's best to gauge your enemy's plan before figuring out the proportion of Roaches to Hydras.  If they are generating anti-armor or aierial units then you should go with a 60/40 ratio of Hydras to Roaches, otherwise keep the proportion equal at 50/50.

Zerg Mid-Game Zergling Rush Attack
This tactic is difficult to survive with at the start of the game, but will end in your victory if you can make it to mid-game.  The cornerstone of this strategy is to overpower your enemy with Zerglings.  They are inexpensive, strong troops that will eventually overrun him.  Just be certain to keep developing your economy as the game continues.  Utilize your spies to seek out weaknesses in your opponent's defenses and take advantage of them.
