Getting Started

• 1). Check that the Xbox 360 cables are properly connected to your television and that both are plugged into your wall power outlets. Make sure your Xbox 360 is properly connected to a wireless router, or cable modem to establish an online connection.
  
  
• 2). Turn on your Xbox 360 console by pushing the "On" button next to the USB ports, or by pushing the "Guide" button, found between the "Start" and "Select" buttons on your Xbox 360 controller.
  
  
• 3). Turn on your television, and change it to the proper channel your Xbox 360 cables are connected to.
  
  
• 4). Push the "Guide" button again to open the Guide window, and select a player profile from the "Sign In" option. Note you must be signed in to access Xbox Live.
  
  
• 5). Peel off the security backing from the Microsoft Points card to reveal the redeemable points code.
  
  

Sending Microsoft Points

• 1). Select the "Messages" option in the Guide window.
  
  
• 2). Select the "Create New" option.
  
  
• 3). Select the "Message" option.
  
  
• 4). Choose a Friend from the list of your online friends, or choose "Enter Gamertag" if you're giving the code to someone you don't have as a Friend. Note you must know the correct spelling of the Gamertag to properly send them the message.
  
  
• 5). Select the "Add Text" option. Note you can also select the "Add Voice" option if you have a Xbox 360 headset, but you only have 15 seconds to record your message, which may not be enough time to recite the 25 letter/number code, or the message may not be understandable.
  
  
• 6). Type in the Microsoft Points code, and click "Done" when you are finished with the message.
  
  
• 7). Select the "Send Message" option.
  
  

Private Chat

• 1). Plug your Xbox 360 headset into your Xbox 360 controller, and make sure it is turned on.
  
  
• 2). Select the "Messages" option in the Guide window.
  
  
• 3). Select the "Create New" option.
  
  
• 4). Select the "Private Chat Invite" option.
  
  
• 5). Choose a Friend from the list of your online friends, or choose "Enter Gamertag" if you're giving the code to someone you don't have as a Friend. Note you must know the correct spelling of the Gamertag to properly send them the message.
  
  
• 6). Select the "Send Invite" option.
  
  
• 7). Wait while the message recipient responds.
  
  
• 8). Tell them the redeemable code, and make sure they write it down. Have them read it back to you to double-check that they have the code written correctly.
