How to Replace a Volvo Dipstick
- 1). Purchase a new dipstick from a local Volvo dealer. Give the last eight digits of the VIN to the parts specialist. He can pull the correct part based on these numbers, which provide information applicable to the year, make and model car.
- 2). Open the hood to access the engine compartment. Ensure the car is turned off.
- 3). Locate the engine oil dipstick by the valve cover. The dipstick will be indicated by the label on the top.
- 4). Pull the dipstick out of the tube. Wipe the dipstick off with a rag.
- 5). Insert the new dipstick in the tube. Pull the dipstick out of the tube and wipe it off with a rag.
- 6). Insert the dipstick back in to the tube and pull it back out. Verify the level of the oil by where it stops on the stick. Add oil if necessary.
- 7). Close the hood.
