Tips For Productivity For Home Based Business
Procrastination
Procrastination is the long-horned beast that threatens to derail many of us. Working in the home environment will make it seem unsurpassable at times. See end of first paragraph. It's NOT. Both making and breaking habits takes around 21 days for either to become affective. So if procrastination is holding you back make some new habits to counteract these.
Keep your mind positive.
The human mind is a powerful thing. It can either make you or break you by what goes in and what comes out. I am not talking about intellect but the way we think. It can be your worst discourager, and your worst critique. If so, that alone will hold you back from being productive. Turn that around and have positivity both going in and your thoughts being positive you will be far more creative and have higher levels of energy. With a positive mindset the bumps in the road that you run into won't seem like unsurpassable mountains. If in the negative frame of the first instance they may well do.Plug yourself into some motivational audio each morning to start the day off in the right frame of mind.
Be Flexible
You may need to be flexible in your work schedule. If you have children or family this can be especially so. Do it. You are not working by someone elses rules any more. You are your own boss so you dictate when you work and you will do it at times that are most suitable to you. If chained to a clock you may as well go back to the rat race of 9 to 5. I am chronically ill and severely disabled. No two days are alike. I work around my health, if I had to do certain things every day I would never have started. We all need flexibility whatever our life is. If you schedule something in for a certain time slot cut yourself a bit of slack. You don't answer to a boss. YOU are your boss.
Make a list of what you need to do.
Cross them off as you do them. There are some great online sites that provide these types of tools. If you are spending most of your time at the computer it is sensible to use the online world to access tools to help you, from pop up alarms to remind you of a phone appointment or webinar, etc to tasks or to do lists. These are all usually free.
If you have suffered a set back, see each day as a new start. Get the negativity out of your mind and set to work. As you build block upon block you will soon feel encouraged. We learn from our mistakes and failure is only final if you quit.
When starting a home business sacrifices especially where time is concerned will probably have to be made, but don't forget to have some fun and relaxation too. If you are not able to spend as much time with your family as you normally do, sit them down and talk to them. Tell them it is only for a short while but you are doing it for them. Being upfront and straight with your nearest and dearest now, is less likely to make for distractions ,or feelings of guilt or disharmony in the home when they realize you are doing it for them. Having them behind you supporting you is a huge asset.
