College: Is Your Child Really Safe?

103 28
There aren't many things that are more exciting or scary than going away to college for the first time.
There are so many conflicting emotions going on for the student and for the parents.
One of the foremost concerns of parents is for their child's safety.
Sadly many of the students never give this a second thought until it is too late, so parents speak up, step up to bat and get some self-protection for your loved one.
We realize that they are mostly grownup now, but this doesn't give them a free pass to safety.
They will be meeting many new people who may become great friends, but for now they are basically strangers.
They will be in a new location, perhaps a new city, state or even a new country.
Make sure that they are up to date on safety measures.
We hear too many bad things now a days about our children going away and never seeing them again, or they can't even be found.
Is this scaring you a bit? Good! I We often tend to be too laid back thinking that something always happens to the other person, right? It could never happen to me or someone I know.
That's probably what all these other people thought too.
Your child will be going out across campus, into parking lots, maybe jogging on trails, dating new people who they really don't know that much about.
Their new friend may look good and seem real nice, maybe even be real popular, but do they really know them? There are many nonlethal self-defense products that your child can have available to them at all times to provide them with safe self-defense.
Pepper sprays are a great first line of self-defense.
Pepper sprays today are made from pepper that causes the eyes to slam shut, and makes breathing difficult.
If the "bad guy" can't see and is in pain and short of breath, the focus is off of you.
This gives you time to get away to safety.
Pepper sprays come in many forms such as a lipstick pepper spray that looks like a tube of lipstick.
There is the key chain pepper spray that allows you to have your pepper spray in hand with your keys, as you approach your vehicle, your dorm, or your apartment etc.
Guys aren't going to want to walk around with a key chain pepper spray, so there is a pepper pen that can fit in a shirt pocket and looks just like a real ink pen.
There is even a pepper spray man's ring that shoots out pepper spray when needed.
Another great protection item is called Hot Walkers.
These are great for the jogger or anyone out walking and exercising.
They sport one pound walking weights with a built-in pepper spray, and a storage compartment for keys and money etc.
A free replacement pepper spray canister is included! All of this is just the start.
How about personal alarms, and stun guns? Stun guns come in models that look like a Blackberry or other handheld mobile device.
There is the Pretender Stun Gun that looks like a cell phone and has a built-in flashlight.
It can be found in black or even pink.
No one will be the wiser, because nearly everyone carries a cell phone.
Another great safety item is the Door Stop Alarm.
It is placed under the edge of the door and prevents the door from being opened.
If anyone tries to open the door, a 120 dB alarm will sound.
Alarm stops when pressure is released from the door stop plate.
This is great because it can be carried with you, whether you are in an apartment, dorm, hotel, traveling, or just going on vacation.
Parents, while you are preparing for your child to "Be Safe" don't forget about yourself and your other loved ones, neighbors and friends.
All of these items are great for any and all people, so prepare to BE SAFE!
