    • 1). Celebrate New Year's eve at Big Night Baltimore. This event has been taking place annually since 2002. Tickets cost about $150, with an extra $50 for VIP admission, as of 2010. General admission allows you access to all of the stages, as well as the appetizer style food and an open bar. VIP tickets get you the hot buffet meal as well as an open bar of top-shelf liquor. The most exciting thing about Big Night Baltimore is the variety of performers, such as bands and comedians, playing on different stages throughout the evening.

    • 2). Take part in a charitable event. Go to the Charm City Countdown, hosted by Caring Communities charitable organization. This event is similar to Big Night Baltimore, with multiple performers on a variety of stages. There are also food stations and silent auctions to benefit charity. Charm City Countdown is held at Sports Legend Museum and Geppi's.

    • 3). Check out the fireworks in the Inner Harbor at midnight. There is no charge to watch the fireworks. Go to the Inner Harbor, or watch them from a location close by. If you visit the Inner Harbor, you can also have dinner at one of the restaurants, such as the Cheesecake Factory, Phillip's or J Paul's.

    • 4). Take a New Year's dinner cruise on the Spirit of Baltimore. The ship leaves the dock in the Inner Harbor around 8 p.m. and returns at 1 am. It costs a little under $200 to take the cruise, with meal and drinks included. Dress warmly if you choose this option, because the temperatures in December range from 20 to 40 degrees at night. The weather feels even colder on a boat.

    • 5). Visit a nightclub in Baltimore. Try the Hard Rock Cafe or Power Plant. There will either be a live band playing or DJs. Expect to pay an admission charge.
