Do Individuals Have to Worry About the Prospect of Data Loss?
Here's another example that might hit a little closer to home for many people. Many of us store our prized digital photos on our computer hard drives. What would you do if you got up one day and discovered your computer no longer wanted to play ball? All those photos would be inaccessible – possibly gone forever. You would be unable to put a price on losing those – they could never be replaced.
If you thought it was only businesses that had to worry about the potential to lose data before you started reading this article, you've probably changed your mind. The good news is you can take steps to ensure the odds of losing data are minimised from here on in.
Make copies
You can make copies of work, photos and anything else you don't want to lose. Use your computer hard drive, an external hard drive, store them in the cloud and maybe even on a clip drive or something similar.
The trouble is most people are aware they can do this – they just never get around to doing it. Make a pact today not to procrastinate. Set some time aside to make copies of everything just in case.
Have a plan
Of course, we all know the best laid plans can still be upset quite easily. It's not impossible for your computer and your external hard drive to fail at the same time. This could happen if you are unlucky enough for your system to be infected by a virus or other malicious code.
It makes sense therefore to find a company that is capable of providing data recovery services at short notice in case your own backup plans don't work. Trying to find the best in the business when you don't need them is easy. Trying to find them when you are panicking over the potential of lost data isn't fun at all.
