How to Market Your Salon & Spa on Twitter

What the heck is a tweet, or Twitter, for that matter? Twitter, like Facebook, is another social media tool.
It's fairly easy to set up a Twitter account.
Just log into Twitter and provide a username and password.
Twitter will send you an email confirmation and you reply to it.
Now you are in.
You will want to create a Twitter name that uses your Salon or Spa name.
You will set up these 3 things:
  1. Twitter Bio
  2. Twitter Background
  3. Your First Tweet
First, you'll want to create a killer bio.
To create a bio, click on Settings.
Think of something catchy and unique like "Last year, our massage therapists removed more stress from clients than most happy hours".
Next, you'll want to create a custom background image.
Don't use of the canned, generic ones.
You want to be unique.
Show your creativity.
The dimensions are 1270 x 648.
It's now time to really get out of your comfort zone.
Under you Windows start menu, click on Paint.
Paint is a very, very basic graphics program, but it will do just fine here.
Once in Paint, click on Image, then on Attributes.
Select pixels, then put in 1270 as the width and 648 as the height.
This is your canvas.
Most of the middle part of this canvas will be covered up by your tweets, so you really only have the left margin and right margin to work with.
About 2" in each side.
Now save this file as a JPG (a picture file).
Now in Twitter, then under settings, click on Design.
Down at the bottom, click on Change Background Image.
Select the new image file you just created.
Now look at your new profile.
Don't like how it turned out? No worries.
Go back into paint and adjust it and re-upload the JPG file again.
Repeat as many times as you like.
Lastly, now that you've completed your Bio and background picture, you are ready for your first tweet.
So now you can click on Home in Twitter and a box pops up.
That's the tweet box.
Does it look small? It is.
You only have 140 characters for a tweet.
So you will want to keep it short, sweet and to the point.
As a Salon and Spa marketing on Twitter, you'll want to post weekly specials.
In order to do this, you will want to create a coupon or specials page on your website and post this link in your tweet.
Because you are limited to 140 characters on a tweet, you will more than likely have to create a condensed version of that link.
I use tinyurl.
You put in the full link name and it comes back with a tiny one, giving you more room to write ad copy in your tweet (because of the 140 character limitation).
And that's how you market your Salon and Spa on Twitter.
