  There are three main bus stations in New York City: Port Authority, Penn Station and George Washington Bridge. Port Authority and Penn Station bus stations are centrally-located, respectively near Times Square and Herald Square in Manhattan. George Washington Bridge Station is in uptown Manhattan and is ideal for travel to northern locations. Dozens of bus companies also run service from a variety of areas in New York, including Chinatown, Midtown and the Financial District. The variety of bus companies keeps prices competitive and transportation options plentiful for travel to and from New York City.

  Pennsylvania Station, commonly known as Penn Station, located between 31st and 33rd Streets, with entrances on 7th and 8th Avenues, is connected to Madison Square Garden. Predominately, trains run from Penn Station. However, two main bus lines, Bolt Bus and Vamoose Bus, run from the area. Buses leave from street-level, with pick-up areas varying by the destination city.
  
  

Port Authority Bus Terminal

  Port Authority Bus Terminal, located just west of Times Square, is home to more than three dozen bus companies, including Greyhound, Peter Pan and New Jersey Transit. Port Authority runs along 8th Avenue between 42nd and 40th Streets and has undergone renovations to the terminals and shopping areas. According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, more than 200,000 commute in and out of Port Authority Bus Terminal every day, making it one of the busiest locations in Manhattan.
  
  

George Washington Bridge Bus Station

  The George Washington Bridge Bus Station is located in northern Manhattan near the George Washington Bridge. As with Port Authority and Penn Station, the location near a bridge allows for buses to quickly enter and exit Manhattan. The station was designed by famed architect Dr. Pier Luigi Nervi and features bus lines including NJ Transit, Air Brook Express and Red & Tan Lines. The bi-level facility also features shops and restaurants and is accessible from the A Train.
